I’d like to introduce you all to a friend of mine Chef Rob Bika . He is also the son of the AOAC co founder Kimberly McCuiston .. Rob was working at a local Gulf Shores Restaurant as a Seafood Chef , however recently his arms and hands started to break out in lesions . He made an appointment with Dr. Carol Williams who is recognizing the toxic environment we are living in. She is advising patients not to eat the seafood and checking patients for Vibrio.
Rob was told by Dr. Williams that the lesion on his arm is most likely from exposure and handling seafood, and that he has to quit handling seafood . I asked Chef Bika how this was affecting his life now and here is what he had to say , “Well I’m no longer able to work with raw or cooked seafood which really puts me out of work as a cook down here..I’m breaking out in blisters and abcesses all over my hand now ;and the lawyer I contacted said I’m ineligible for reopening a claim even though this claim would go under the health claim..I don’t qualify for assistance because I wasn’t a clean up worker nor do i live 1.5 miles from the coast..I basically signed my life away for the 5000 dollars in Nov.2010 and now all these weird rashes and boils plus the fact what ever it is has caused my already compromised liver to remain at an abnormally high level in regards to the enzyme count “.
Now not only is he sick from exposure from handling contaminated seafood , he has to give up his job .He has even discussed relocating away from the Gulf Coast since he can nolonger work with seafood. Just a little heads up the settlement as it’s structured right now will not allow those who accepted the final GCCF payment to now refile under the new terms unless they live within 1.5 miles of the beach … Which means for potentially thousands of workers they’ll be excluded from collecting medical damages from BP even though they can clearly show that their illness is related to the spill simply because they don’t live where they work.. This must change if you can prove BP made you sick , cost you a job , business or any type of damages ;then you should be eligible to collect no matter where you live. Below you’ll see a picture of the lesion that first came up on Rob’s arm last week .. he has more now and I hope to be able to share more pictures as they become available .. In the meantime DO NOT HANDLE OR EAT GULF SEAFOOD .. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN’T SEE THE CONTAMINANTS DOESN’T MEAN THEY AREN’T THERE !!

The restaurant that Chef Bika worked was serving imported seafood until a couple of weeks ago ; when they started serving Locally caught Gulf seafood again.. Then Chef Bika’s lesions began appearing .
